SILVERTON HIGH SCHOOL’S
CAR CLUB
We are very honored and proud to announce that our club is the new home for the well known drag car “Severely Disabled Chicken Coupe”.
Owned and raced by “Doc Lavinder”, the 1935 Nash raced at drag strips throughout the Northwest and was a competitive and popular car. Rheumatoid Arthritis confined Doc to a wheelchair but did not confine his drive and sprite, he raced the coupe and conducted his “Ability in Disability” promotion at drag strips and schools.
Upon his passing in June of 1997, the “Chicken Coupe” was displayed at the NHRA Motorsports Museum in Pomona Calif., where it was on display for an unknown number of visitors from around the world.
Doc and his Chicken Coup was the subject of many newspaper, magazine, and TV interviews during his shortened racing career. Popular among racers and those who knew him, Doc’s message touched many people.
The Chicken Coupe was transported to Silverton High Schools Car Club in August of 2007. It is now our mission to preserve an important part of our automotive history, and to keep Doc’s message alive.
Much like Doc’s efforts, we are asking for support in our mission. We can provide much more information on this important car and our plans. Please feel free to contact us at our school shop, or call at 503-873-6331, ext 6237, email cox_david@silverfalls.k12.or.us.

Thank you for your time and we hope to hear from you soon.
